Frequently Asked Questions

What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It includes information like camera model, date taken, exposure settings, GPS coordinates, and more.
Which image formats contain EXIF data?
EXIF data is most commonly found in JPEG and TIFF files. PNG, GIF, and WebP files typically do not contain EXIF metadata, though basic information like dimensions can still be displayed.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript ArrayBuffer and DataView APIs. Your images never leave your device.
Why are some fields missing?
Not all images contain EXIF data. Screenshots, images from the web, and edited images often have EXIF data stripped. Additionally, not all camera models write all fields.
