Frequently Asked Questions
What DNS record types can I look up?▾
This tool supports A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), CNAME (aliases), MX (mail servers), TXT (text records), NS (nameservers), and SOA (start of authority) records.
Where does the DNS data come from?▾
DNS queries are made using Cloudflare's public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver (1.1.1.1), which provides fast and accurate results.
What is TTL?▾
TTL (Time To Live) is the number of seconds a DNS record is cached. After the TTL expires, resolvers will query for fresh data.
Can I query a specific record type?▾
Yes. Select one or more record types to query. By default, all types are queried.
What is the difference between A and AAAA records?▾
A records point a domain to an IPv4 address (e.g., 192.168.1.1). AAAA records point to an IPv6 address (e.g., 2001:db8::1). Most domains have both for compatibility.
What are MX records used for?▾
MX (Mail Exchange) records specify the mail servers responsible for receiving email for a domain. The priority value determines which server is tried first when multiple MX records exist.
Can I look up internal or private domains?▾
No. The tool queries public DNS resolvers and can only look up domains registered in the public DNS system. Internal or private network domains are not available.
