Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my shared link look different on each platform?▾
Each platform has its own rendering rules. Twitter/X prefers twitter:* tags but falls back to og:*. LinkedIn uses og:* tags. Facebook uses og:*. When tags are missing, platforms use different fallbacks — LinkedIn may show no image, Twitter shows a plain text link. This tool shows the effective preview for each platform based on actual tag priority.
What is the recommended og:image size?▾
The recommended og:image size is 1200×630 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio). Minimum is 600×315. Twitter summary_large_image card works best with 1200×628. LinkedIn recommends 1200×627. Facebook recommends 1200×630. File size should be under 8MB (Twitter limits to 5MB). Always use HTTPS URLs for images as HTTP images may be blocked.
What is twitter:card and which type should I use?▾
twitter:card controls the card type: 'summary' shows a small 1:1 image; 'summary_large_image' shows a large 2:1 banner image (the most common choice); 'app' is for app store links; 'player' is for embedded video/audio. Without twitter:card, Twitter shows a plain text link with no preview. Most websites should use summary_large_image.
Why is my og:image not showing on LinkedIn?▾
LinkedIn caches previews aggressively. If you just added or changed og:image, use LinkedIn's Post Inspector to force a cache refresh. Common reasons og:image doesn't show: the URL returns a redirect, the server blocks LinkedIn's crawler (Sociograph bot), the image is served from HTTP instead of HTTPS, the image is under 200×200px (LinkedIn minimum), or robots.txt blocks the LinkedIn crawler.
How often do social platforms re-scrape my page?▾
Twitter typically re-scrapes within a few days when a URL is shared. Facebook/LinkedIn cache previews for 24-48 hours and may hold stale data longer. To force a refresh: Facebook has the Sharing Debugger (search Google), LinkedIn has the Post Inspector, Twitter has the Twitter Card Validator. This tool shows current live metadata without cached preview interference.
